The Top 10 Reasons Children Need Chiropractic Care

We know that regular Chiropractic adjustments and maintaining spinal alignment is beneficial for health when it comes to ourselves, but sometimes we fail to realize that these same benefits apply to our little ones.  Because children do not often report back or neck pain, we might fail to consider how Chiropractic can assist our kids growing bodies. Remember, it is much easier to maintain health than try to restore it once it is compromised.

The following is PRANA’s list of the top 10 reasons to get your children in for regular spinal checks and adjustments when needed:

(1)   Helps Improve Sleep: By taking tension off of the nervous system, adjustments can help to create and establish more normal sleeping patterns.  Parents often report that their children get more restful sleep following adjustments as well.

(2)   Helps with Sinus and Ear Infections: Adjustments to the neck region can open and remove pressure from the eustachian tubes, which can help removes blockages and allow for drainage.

(3)   Improves Immune System Function: A study conducted in 1975 by Dr. Ronald Pero, PhD. Who was the chief of preventative cancer research at the New York Preventative Medicine Institute found that long-term Chiropractic patients had a 200% greater immune competence than those that did not receive Chiropractic care.  An improved immune system competence means less illness and more resilience to harmful bacteria and viruses.

(4)   Helps with Colic: The cause of colic is not fully understood, but most healthcare practitioners agree that there is a digestive component to the condition.  When the nervous system is free of interference, such as that which can result from birth trauma, all systems improve in function including digestion.

(5)   Reduces the Risks of Issues Later on in Life: Maintaining spinal and structural alignment can reduce the risk of skeletal issues down the road such as degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, headaches, and issues with the joints of the extremities.

(6)   Children’s Bones are Ever-Growing and Changing:  As our children’s bodies grow, maintaining the health of the spine, skeleton, and connective tissues is vitally important.  Setting the stage for a lifetime of health is one of the greatest gifts we can offer our children.

(7)   Helps with Behavior and Improved Concentration: Spinal misalignments place pressure on the nervous system and can excite the sympathetic nervous system which is responsible for our fight or flight response.  Adjustment can help alleviate this tension, and thereby cause a relaxation of the sympathetic response.

(8)   Improves Digestion: We touched on this briefly while discussing colic, but when an adjustment restores that communication between the brain and the body, digestion improves and becomes more regulated.  Many parents report a bowel movement in their infants soon after receiving a Chiropractic adjustment.

(9)   Helps with Asthma and Breathing Issues: Asthma and some of breathing issues are an inflammatory response to an auto-immune issue, which again is directly related to the function of the nervous system.  In some cases, spinal misalignments can block and restrict nerve transmissions from the brain to organs such as the lungs.

(10)  Improves Overall Mood: Spinal misalignments can certainly result in pain and discomfort, and our little ones are no exception to this.  Problem is, most infants and younger children lack the ability to verbally communicate this to us.  This can result in increased crying and expressions of irritability.  Regular Chiropractic checks can detect these misalignments, and correcting them with adjustments can therefore improve mood by removing the discomfort.
